Misc., Wargame Shows, Newark

I didn’t get to the show this year, as I was stuck up in Orkney, but a group travelled south from Edinburgh, and Colin Jack sent me these pictures.dsc01595My favourite by far is the Abyssinian Campaign game with the Italians facing hordes of spear-wielding locals, but the Zulu-looking colonial game looked great too.dsc01596 Also spotted was a Grand Alliance game, an American War of Independence bash, and a couple of WW2 ones.dsc01594 Our own crowd staged some sort of fantasy nonsense – an exploration of an Egyptian tomb, in a sort of Dungeons & Dragons style. While this certainly isn’t my thing, I have to admit that the tomb itself built by the talented Hugh Wilson looked great.p1010226Another favourite was this really pretty AWI game – the Battle of Eutaw Springs, 1781, fought in the South Carolina colony. I can’t remember who put it on, but visually it was a real treat. dsc01597As a bonus, after the show Colin went off and visited the local air museum, and his pictures included some cool-looking British aircraft from the 50’s and 60’s. As I’ve just built a 1/48 scale Hawker Hunter for my new Borneo Confrontation period, I thought I’d include a picture of the Fleet Air Arm contingent at the museum, a Buccaneer and a Sea Vixen, from the good old days when we had carriers – and a Fleet Air Arm. dsc01580
